Marijuana Legalization, Algae Blooms, and Moms Demand Action

Marijuana Legalization, Algae Blooms, and Moms Demand Action

On Thursday night at the County Board meeting, I introduced an advisory referendum to be placed on the ballot in Fall 2018 to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana. The specific question is:

"Should marijuana be legalized, taxed and regulated in the same manner as alcohol for adults 21 ears of age or older?"

Channel 3000 provides a good summary of the referendum here:

Beyond Coal, Jail Reconstruction, and Inspirational Message

Beyond Coal, Jail Reconstruction, and Inspirational Message

At every County Board meeting, there is a prayer / inspirational message. The supervisors deliver this message in alphabetical order and it is my turn next. I am going to talk about my experiences as a first generation American and the concept of belonging in America.

My parents sacrificed so much for the opportunities that I have and I constantly asked myself if my efforts are worthy for everything they gave up. I am happy my mom and dad will be there in person as I address my colleagues and neighbors. It would be great to see you there this Thursday at 7:00 in City-County Building room 201. If you can't make it, I will post video of the meeting in a future update.

EANR, Land Conservation and Neighborhood News and Events

We had our first meeting on Tuesday, May 1st for Environment, Agriculture and Natural Resources (EANR) standing committee. Our meetings will be held twice a month on Thursdays when County Board meetings are not in session. The meetings will run back-to-back with the Land Conservation Committee (LCC), and will be held at the Lyman F. Anderson Agriculture & Conservation Center located at 5201 Fen Oak Drive. Meetings are open to the public.

I will dedicate a separate blog entry detailing the work of the LCC, and how it helps provide conservation planning assistance and technical services in the area of soil and water conservation to the landowners, land users, and decision-makers of Dane County.

Manure Digesters: A Closer Look...

I recently toured a Manure Digester with County Executive Joe Parisi, Director of Policy and Program Development Dave Merritt, and John Haeckel of Clean Fuel Partners.

County Board Swearing-In and D6 Updates

County Board Swearing-In and D6 Updates

My first County Board meeting was Tuesday, April 17th. Thanks to all my friends, family and supporters who came out to witness my swearing in. This is also my first blog entry. I plan on using this space to provide updates on meetings, issues, and events that affect our district. Please bookmark this page. I will also post these links to Facebook and Twitter.

On the County Board floor, I supported an amendment to the board operating rules to prohibit scheduling meetings of the county board and committees during any countywide or statewide election.
