Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I am announcing my campaign for a 3rd term on the Dane County Board with the support of over one hundred neighbors, community leaders and elected officials. I am going to work hard to earn your support!

In my first two terms, I have worked to reduce our jail population, to increase our resilience to flooding, and to protect our land and water. I have advocated for clean and open government, and funded solutions to increase affordable housing and help our homeless and housing-insecure neighbors.

In my first two terms, my accomplishments include:

  • Securing $500,000 in funding for the ambitious Voit Farm project to increase affordable housing, provide space for local food production, and protect the Starkweather watershed.

  • Authoring a resolution to help regulate PFAS pollution during construction projects at the airport, provide public information about PFAS testing, and procure a legal opinion on the regulatory authority that the County government has to protect our drinking water.

  • Being the lead sponsor on a resolution for $1 million in COVID-19 recovery program funds for local artists and performers.

  • Working with the Sheriff’s office to create a daily jail census report that includes inmate race, ethnicity, judicial status, and age. This can be used to identify long term trends, assisting in reducing the jail population and informing our public safety road map going forward.

  • Authoring a $3 million budget amendment to buy flood-prone land, with an eye towards converting it to wetlands to leave rain water where it falls and out of our lakes to increase our resilience to flooding.

  • Working with Dane County and other counties around the state for a cannabis legalization, taxation and regulation referendum that passed with strong support.

There is no greater honor than representing and working alongside my active and engaged neighbors on the east side of Madison to create a stronger and more equitable and inclusive community. It is my top priority to reduce racial disparities in our criminal justice system, protect our natural resources and drinking water, and provide opportunities to all of our neighbors.

I invite you to join me at the Harmony Bar and Grill (2201 Atwood Ave.) for the event “Ballots, Burgers and Brews” on December 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. We will be gathering with neighbors according to Covid-19 protocols to collect signatures to get on the ballot and kick off the campaign.
